This week’s Local Eyes is from emerging artist YVY MARAEY who merges contemporary rnb with resonant Brazilian rhythms and offers a fresh and soulful voice. Her debut single in collaboration with Berlin-based US rapper Mike NASA and features Kiwi Noah Slee, “A Família “ is out now.
Working with New Zealand guitarist and producer Simon Abela, YVY MARAEY weaves playful melodies, chill beats and expressive vocals into her upcoming debut EP. With a unique blend of European, Antipodean and Latino elements, her sound is laid-back and light, yet rooted in strong grooves that make you want to move.
Her debut single ‘A Família’ reflects a reverence for the natural world and indigenous culture, balanced by an effervescent youthfulness that infuses her sound. With features from fellow Berlin-based artist Noah Slee and Mike NASA, the single sits in between Bossa nova, hip hop, rnb and soul, merging sounds that influence her life into a clear expression of her experience.
