SURREY BOUDIT ‘Tek My Leave’

Written by on September 18, 2017

After four years, and many gigs uptown & downtown Auckland, eight-piece Ska band Surrey Boudit (pronounced Sah-Ree-Bow-Dit) are releasing their first vinyl + digital single on Thursday 21 September 2017.

It is a very exciting time for these Grey Lynn cats who pride themselves on getting bums off seats to get down to the mojo heavy sounds. With a repertoire of originals self-penned and composed by the main man, Rawiri Motutere, the band takes inspiration from 60s Jamaica (StudioOne/Trojan) records. His (mainly whanau) group is very particular about getting that old-school
ska/rocksteady groove just right. And then they leaven this roots mix with some classic firstwave, dancefloor r&b/soul that wakes up your feet again.

The new single has been written, produced and released by themselves, from the backyard studio of their mate Peri’s place in Grey Lynn. The result is a tasty double-A morsel of wry lyrics and diva-driven original instrumental flavours like you’ve never heard before!

TEK MY LEAVE
12 Bar blues inna Mojo Rocksteady Style. This tune is in keeping with the age old Blues tradition of commiserating over one’s relationship with their ‘Baby’ and how those dynamics seem to be a never-ending game of cat and mouse. Not to be taken too seriously!
