Nganeko ‘Facade’

Written by on August 18, 2021

This week’s Local Eye’s is from rising R&B songstress Nganko who returns with her second single, ‘Facade’, released with a music video created with support from NZ On Air. Nganeko trades her natural R&B range for soulful pop on the new single, detailing her innermost demons, anxieties, and insecurities over glistening, ethereal chords and crunchy drum kicks. The single arrives with a music video directed by Jeremy Cole, peering deeper into Nganeko’s psyche using a dollhouse to portray expectations of womanhood, self-doubt, and the deception of outward appearance.

“It doesn’t share the same energy as any of my other songs, which I adore, because of its meaning,” Nganeko says. “It’s a pop song, for sure. The lyrics to ‘Facade’ make this song sound like a toxic love story between two humans. But truly, it’s about the relationship I have with my own inner demons and finally noticing; identifying the problem and telling them to gap it. Forever!”
