NEXT GEN pt. 2 – Proudly brought to you by Haumako & Base FM, with thanks to Mangere Otahuhu Arts, Mangere Arts Centre, The local board, Auckland UNESCO City of Music, and Mangere Central School for the support.
Running from 12-2 PM at the Mangere Art Centre Courtyard is an afternoon of live music entertainment. Headlining the second installment is DJ Bass 685, RAZE & Kau, alongside some local emerging talent and as well as established artists. The Next-Gen Series will also be showcasing Base’s very own youth mentees, giving them a chance to show off their freshly learned skills.  Base DJ Grassmouth recently worked with Matai, Betsy, and Karina from Managere Central School to provide mentorship with all things radio. At the end of the program, they had gained more confidence in themselves and managed to take away some neat little skill sets.

DJ BASS 685

Halling from South Auckland representing 687 Apia City Samoa, Bass is the label co-owner of The Ville along Poetik. Together they hold it down for The Ville Radio on Base FM Mondays 4-6 pm.

RAZÉ

The 23-year-old South Aucklander was a nominee for three 2019 Pacific Music Awards, up for Best Pacific Music Video, Female Artist, and Soul Artist. She’s made the transition from hip-hop dancer to soul singer, crediting her musical family for giving her a nudge. Razé was part of Identity dance company, which came second at the World Hip-Hop Champs in 2014.

KAU

Nikau or ‘KAU’ is a young Hip Hop Producer and MC from the West Coast of Auckland. He dropped his debut album, ‘Blacksand’ in December 2020, in recognition of the volcanic blacksand beaches throughout the west coast of Aotearoa. ‘Blacksand’ is an album that paints a sunset in your mind, with features from all over West Auckland, the Album tells stories of growing up, having a good time, and everyday life. We are extremely excited to have him perform this live, alongside RAZE and DJ Bass 685.

Matai, Betsy and Karina from Mangere Central School (Base Youth Mentees)

Rounding out the bill, we have invited our shining new stars from Mangere Central School to get some stage presence practice. They will be performing alongside our mentors and established artists, showcasing their favourite songs. Most excitingly Matai, Betsy, and Karina will be performing their very own original piece, written, recorded, and produced at BaseFM, by their mentor Chris aka Grassmouth, who will be hosting the day.

Big thanks to Mangere Otahuhu Arts, Mangere Arts Centre, The local board, Auckland UNESCO City of Music, and Mangere Central School for the support!
