JONO DAS ‘Bees & Things & Flowers’

Written by on June 4, 2018

Jono Das is the creative trade name of Jono de Alwis; a man who operates across a number of creative outlets, including beatmaking, djing, graphic design, photography and videography. Jono’s beats work on forging a sound reminiscent of golden-era east coast hip hop, where jazz influenced samples are guided by a mellow tone and crisp production, informing a relaxed soundscape.

The London-based, kiwi beatmaker has amassed an extensive catalogue of releases, including the series Jono’s Jazz Volumes 1 – 6; Illustrations EP which featured guest vocalists Third3ye, Raiza Biza, Rizvan, eo (Badcrop), Yayne and Lisa Wright; and most recently the album collections Friction (2017) and Misc. J (2018).

This week we feature ‘Bees & Things & Flowers’ from Misc. J, a track with a Roy Ayers-inspired title. With it’s sliced beats and smooth sliding bassline, this is a good snapshot of how Jono Das approaches sampling and beat production.
