JESSB ‘Set It Off’
Written by Admin on May 21, 2018
Former Northern Mystics player JessB goes back to her netball roots for her latest video for ‘Set It Off’, taken from her debut EP Bloom. The visual sees JessB fuse her creative and athletic talents into one dynamic force field, as she raps while tearing up the netball court with her sisters.
The ‘Set It Off’ music video features cameos from Auckland royalty Madeleine Sami, Kris Fox, and Chloe Swarbrick, and is directed by Connie Cash which is the directing pseudonym for the duo of Paloma Schneideman and JessB’s hype woman/DJ Half Queen. Under her director alias Connie Cash, Half Queen explained, “we wanted to cast iconic female kiwis that meant something to us, women with stories, who made us laugh, game changers, those who are at the forefront of culture. In sports, there are coaches and mentors, and the women we asked to be in the video represented those leaders, and they do that in a cultural sphere. Given Jess’ sporting past, we thought netball was an interesting parallel to ‘female emcees’, because specifically in Aotearoa, although we are seen to be one of the best in the world at netball, no one really cares about it on the mainstream stage.”
