THE 2019 APP

Te Wānanga o Aotearoa and WOMAD are striving to bring more Te Reo to the festival. Visit the Teach me Te Reo page on the official WOMAD app; simply click on the speaker icons to learn the correct pronunciation of kupu (words) like ‘Taranaki’ and ‘Tau kē! (Awesome!), spoken in the Taranaki dialect. (There will also be bilingual signage used in print and on digital platforms. To celebrate the ultimate cultural experience, make sure you visit Te PaePae workshops aWOMAD).

While you’re at it use the WOMAD app for all your timetable and information needs. You can use the app to build your own personal itinerary by adding performances and workshops to your schedule. Then you’ll get notifications 15 minutes before they start.

The app is also your festival guide with a festival map, information on artists, traders and on-site extras.

The WOMAD app is available for download on the App Store or Google Play.

RAIN OR SHINE IT’S WOMAD TIME

Did Crowded House have a word to WOMAD? It could be four seasons in one day. Prepare for sun and also showers.

FRIDAY NIGHT DRESS UPS ARE BACK

Hang up the corporate attire and dust off your flower crown – WOMAD Friday night dress up is back for 2019! Release your inner spirit animal, channel some fairy fun, coordinate a group costume with your friends or bedazzle your

face with all the gems and (bio)glitter you can find… The options are endless! If you need an incentive, we’re awarding dress up participants passes to WOMAD NZ 2020. Look out for the official WOMAD photographer roaming the festival on Friday night!

(Please be mindful that culture is not a costume. WOMAD encourages everyone to dress up and have fun, but to be mindful and respectful of what the term ‘cultural appropriation’ means before they come to WOMAD.)

CRAFT MASTER SERIES

The new Craft Master Series offers the unique opportunity to celebrate and learn the technique and skill of jewellery making right here at WOMAD.

The Jewel and the Jeweller still have sessions available which can be pre booked here.

FOOD GLORIOUS FOOD

Outside of the music, one of the highlights of the WOMAD festival experience is the FOOD! Go on a tasty culinary journey around the Global Village where you can eat your way around the globe.

Grab a delicious poutine, some succulent vegan fried chicken or start the day with a super food smoothie bowl. WOMAD has made a commitment to supporting sustainable livelihoods for farmers in developing countries by being the first festival in New Zealand to exclusively use Fairtrade certified coffee throughout the festival.

This year WOMAD have teamed up with TSB to bring you access to free water at five TSB Wai Water refill stations around the site. To make use of this eco-friendly way to stay hydrated, just bring a non-glass empty water bottle to the festival, or purchase one of the new collectable reusable metal bottles on site.
WOMAD strives to create an environment that encourages and empowers people to embrace the philosophy of reducing, reusing, recycling and rethinking. During the festival, the Todd Energy Zero Waste stations are manned by a team of friendly volunteer eco-warriors who will help you compost and recycle as much of your waste as possible. By doing this you enable us to achieve the goal of minimising any waste going to landfill.

During WOMAD, the gorgeous Kunming Garden is transformed into a bustling hive of activity. This charming area has been given an exciting revamp for the 2019 festival and it is now the home of an upmarket new festival feature, the Pagoda Bar.

The Pagoda Bar’s cocktails, fine wines and craft beers are a perfect accompaniment to another new feature of the Kunming Garden – the World of Words stage. The garden also hosts the popular OMV Taste The World stage where musicians share their favourite hometown recipes Listen, watch and be inspired!

A full list of food vendors and OMV Taste The World schedule are available on the WOMAD app. Don’t miss out!
