EVENT: Splore 15 (Updated Line Up)

Written by on November 14, 2014

Splore has added to its line up with UK DJ legend Mr Scruff, hip hop supergroup Deltron 3030, renowned party band The Cat Empire and up and coming Los Angeles R&B artist Tinashe.

Festival Director John Minty says “This is the first Splore with so many artists presenting new albums or material. From Tinashe and Trinity Roots to Lunice and SJD plus new producers like Kamandi, Race Banyon and Samuel Truth promising to deliver an eclectic range of new sounds. Iconic acts like Mr Scruff and Deltron 3030 are the icing. And for pure entertainment value the bolter is likely to be the UK’s Correspondents”

Mr Scruff will play a New Zealand-exclusive four hour set on the beach at Tapapakanga Park. Check out a recent DJ set here, recorded in London opening for Fat Freddy’s Drop.
Deltron 3030 which includes Del the Funky Homosapien, Dan the Automator and Kid Koala will make their New Zealand debut at their Splore outing.

The Cat Empire, known globally as one of the world’s best party bands, has been riding high on its recent album “Steal the Light” which reached the top 20 in six countries. The band will be coming out of the studio to perform a one-off gig at Splore.

Tinashe is slated to be the songbird best primed for superstardom in the rapidly expanding genre of experimental R&B. Her just released debut album Aquarius featuring big hit “2 On’ along with follow-up “Pretend” is currently receiving lavish praise in the American press.

Also joining the Splore line-up is electronic dance pioneer Lee Coombs; Brainfeeder hip hop artist Azizi Gibson, UK reggae MC YT; Barcelona’s audio visual artist Filastine; plus DJ’s J Star, Slynk and Pippin. Local acts added include the Phoenix Foundation, Weird Together, SJD, HEAVY, Kamandi, Bulletproof, Latin Aotearoa, Tali, Aroha and Guy Johnson.

This line-up adds to The Correspondents, Lunice, Trinity Roots, Rodney P, Jason Eli featuring Basement Jaxx’ Sharlene Hector, Labretta Suede and the Motel 6, Race Banyon, Samuel Truth plus more. Limited performance acts have been announced so far.  Stay tuned for the announcement of visual artists and for some rollicking good fun acts in the Yealands Performance Zone.
