The Headspace

Saturday 2pm – 4pm with Dylan C
Thanks to The Leigh Sawmill Cafe
The Headspace is an eclectic 2 hour journey through Ninja Jazz, Funk & Reggae, Downtempo, Blunted Hip Hop, Dubstep and classic Drum & Bass. Focussing on the often overlooked music from around the world, the Headspace is not about hearing the usual club bangers. The Saturday afternoon slot allows for a lot more self indulgence which isn’t always possible with weekday shows or evening party sets, and apparently the Headspace is suitable for cleaning the house, and nursing hangovers.
Jazz from the late 60s and early 70s (Impulse, Blue Note, CTI), mid 90s downtempo (Warp, Mo Wax, Ninja Tune) and new school beats (Project Mooncircle, All City), hip hop & instrumental beats (Dj Spinna, Pete Rock, Jazz Liberatorz, Dilla, BBE, Stones Throw), electronic dub and even deeper UK bass music (DMZ, Hotflush, Hyperdub, nakedlunch, Apple Pips) forward thinking drum & bass from the past & present (Metalheadz, Certificate 18, Moving Shadow, Exit, Samurai), and plenty of local talent from Aotearoa.
Dylan C is a regular Dj around Auckland City, and currently spins a range of different tunes at the following establishments: Leigh Sawmill Cafe, Racket/A&M, Britomart Country Club, 1885 Basement, Ponsonby Social Club, Rakinos, Tyler St Garage, Everybody’s/Imperial Lane, Snapdragon, Neighbourhood.
Co-hosts the semi regular club night Low End Theory alongside Dan Paine & Manuel Bundy, has been invited to play at the Turnaround twice, and has also DJed at the Powerstation, St James Theatre, Studio, Fu, Zen, Coherent, Ink & Khuja.
Has hustled a few International support slots including: Dj Krush (Japan), Mark Rae (Grand Central/Yes King), TM Juke (Tru Thoughts), Nickodemus (Wonderwheel), King Britt (Digable Planets), Klute (Commercial Suicide), Dj Baku (Japan)
And appeared at local festivals Splore (2006, 2008, 2010, 2012), Rhythm & Vines (2006, 2007, 2009) and Lothlorien (2006, 2007).
So yeah, Dylan C is keeping busy…
