Breaking Artists (July 2021)
Written by Admin on July 1, 2021
‘Breaking Artists’ on Base is a monthly feature where we pick 3 local artists and showcase 3 new tracks we think you should know. All ‘Breaking Artists’ tracks are fresh and featured for the entire month so that we can push their music far and wide.
This month’s picks…
Alayna – ‘Spinning Top’
Melodic and hypnotising with a driving beat, Alayna’s track is deeply emotive – her lyrics commanding attention.
“Written in lockdown last year when I had no idea what I liked or felt about anything, I didn’t feel like I was enough – so thankful for ta-ku who told me it was good enough and in turn made me feel good enough to finish it”. Alayna says about her latest release.
POETIK – ‘Samaori.’
Aucklands favourite rapper POETIK dropped his debut album “POETIK JUSTICE” this month, with Samaori being a leading track from release.
And$um, Valle – ‘Ride the Wave’
Two of Christchurch’s hottest hip-hop acts in And$um and Vallé team up on the smooth new single ‘Ride The Wave’. Self-produced by And$um, with Saxophone provided by Jimmy Rainey, ‘Ride The Wave’ is a slick and jazzy slice of hip-hop.
Speaking on the track And$um explains, “the song is about being self-assured. There’s a fine line between confidence and cocky and I always try to let my music do the talking. I started making music because I love it, and that hasn’t changed”.
