Breaking Artist (May 2021)
Written by Admin on May 1, 2021
‘Breaking Artists’ on Base is a monthly feature where we pick 3 local artists and showcase 3 new tracks we think you should know. All ‘Breaking Artists’ tracks are fresh and featured for the entire month so that we can push their music far and wide.
This month’s picks…
Sola Rosa – Chasing the Sun – (Instrumental)
Following the success of Sola Rosas “Chasing the Sun”, the newly released instrumental versions of the album offers a fresh perspective on some of our favourite summer tracks. A warm swirling echo ushers in enchanting percussion, which provides a hypnotic base for the albums title track, “Chasing the Sun”.
House of Downtown – What You Do – (DiCE_NZ Remix)
On the 7th of May, House of Downtown is set to re-release their NZ top 40 record “Release”, from a new perspective with tracks from 2001 album remixed by local producers. “Release” was an album that showcased funky, bumpin’ early noughties New Zealand house music that we all grew to know & love. “What You Do” is a stomper, embodying the feel of a classic house track with DiCE_NZ providing a fresh take on the 2001 dancefloor anthem.
Phodiso – ‘Talk Too Much”
“Talk too much” is the first single from Act II, the second EP from Botswana-born, Auckland-based hip hop artist Phodiso. The energetic track is the emcee’s response to critics of his confidence and his defence of his right to do the most. Due to release on 28 May, Act II sees him collaborate with some of the most exciting producers in Aotearoa, including Mueslibeats (BLKCITY, Jodang), Carawei Gao (Venom Dolls, Milky Avenue Studio) and Zaidoon Nasir, a.k.a WHO SHOT SCOTT.
