Aspiring Samoan Artist Yung Sefa releases Hip Hop track ‘Viga aku pea’

Hailing from Apia city, Yung Sefa is on our radar as one of Samoa’s most promising MC’s.
Currently the host of the Island Base FM Morning Show, Yung Sefa also works in Film and Television so he’s a recognizable friendly voice and face around the island. Don’t be fooled by his smooth, friendly radio voice as he can throw down some serious bars when given the mic.
‘I’ve been rapping since 10th grade when a couple of overseas kids (Kiwi/Aussie) transferred to our school and that’s what they did all day so I downloaded an Eminem song and never stopped then.’
Yung Sefa wrote the lyrics ‘Viga aku pea’ in 2018 for a festival however it wasn’t until Island Base brought DTP – Downtoplease (an Australian based RnB singing group) over to Samoa in June 2019 that the track was created and brought to life and released.
DTP were in Samoa to perform and also mentored local artists at songwriting workshops during their time in the motherland. As a result of those workshops, DTP picked a number of aspiring artists to open for their concert with Yung Sefa being one of them. He performed the final version of ‘Viga aku pea’ live (watch highlights of the event here).
‘Viga aku pea’ is about growing up and having your elders tell you over and over again to do something but don’t end up listening. With relatable lyrics and a chilled tropical hip hop beat courtesy of Affany Williams and mixed & mastered
by Le Collectiv, this track is super catchy even if you do not speak Samoan.
Yung Sefa is currently working on more music with a group of MC’s and we can expect these tracks to be played at some of the local clubs in Samoa. You heard it here first, Yung Sefa is one to watch.
