Satori (悟り?) (Chinese: 悟; pinyin: wù; Korean: 오 o; Vietnamese: ngộ) is a Japanese Buddhist term for “awakening, comprehension; understanding“. It is derived from the Japanese verb satoru. In the Zen Buddhist tradition, satori refers to the experience of kenshō, “seeing into one’s true nature”. Ken means “seeing,” shō means “nature” or “essence.” Satori and kenshō are commonly translated as enlightenment, a word that is also used to translate bodhi, prajna and buddhahood.
After a 5 year hibernation period, Auckland based rapper Jay Dubs has discovered his own musical awakening, comprehension & understanding. SATORI finds Jay Dubs and Hudge teaming up to bring us a refreshingly vintage project that blends the dusty MPC sounds of the golden era, with punchy kicks, luscious sampling and a forward facing rhetoric and flow that’s hot enough to make a ghost pepper feel like a capsicum.
“Satori” is the first single and features Jay Dubs on the mic, Charles Kickens on the beat, Hudge on the cuts/scratches and mixed down by Beau Jeffries.
