Native Tongues 19 October – Niue artist special

Written by on October 20, 2020

This week is Niue language week so we’ve picked some very talented artists from ‘the Rock’!

Definitely no stranger to Base, Diggy Dupé is picked to start the show with ‘Island Time‘ and ‘40oz (The Gate)‘ both from his iconic 2018 release via Renaissance Music.

Haz Beats, in-house producer of Team Dynamite, Homebrew and beat maker extraordinaire – This week we feature the track ‘Down (feat.Spycc)‘ off his collaborated project with soul vocalist Miloux. The track was was a 2019 Silver Scroll award Top 20 finalist.

The second track ‘Roadman‘ is a throwback from his 2018 project ‘E5‘- a 6 track instrumental release which reflected on his 3 month journey of Europe mainly spent in the east ends of London.

Team DynamiteTony TZ (Niue), Lucky Lance with production from Haz Beats (Niue) released this iconic track featuring the legendary Che Fu (Niue), ‘Coconut Lime‘ back in 2013 and is one of our favourite NZ music videos.

Very On feat. Lui Silk‘ was released in 2014 and is from Team Dynamites first full length album ‘Shepherds Delight‘. The album was a digital only release with a limited preview / download period aimed at their die-hard fans, but after receiving over 1000 downloads in the first week Team Dynamite decided to release the album in a physical format.

Lui Silk (Niue) is from the legendary Auckland Hip Hop group Homebrew.

The Daylight Robbery‘ are the live band for NZ hip-hop artist David Dallas. They released their self-titled, 9 track project in 2013. Featured track is ‘Kinfolk feat. Jordache, Spycc and Lui Silk.’

REDDXROZAY is a Niuean Artist/Producer/Videographer currently based in Brisbane. Tracks featured this week, ‘Pink Impala’ and ‘Wrong’ from his 2018 project Rough Sketches (Pt. 1) and two of his recent singles ‘Home Sick’ and ‘Detour’.

Glen Jackon (half Niue, half Tonga) is a musician and entrepreneur. He is the first Niuean living in Niue to be recognized on the NZ charts for his single ‘Piece of You‘. His 2019 album ‘Talako Dragon‘ was nominated for this years Best Pacific Gospel Artist at the Pacific Music Awards. Featured this week – ‘Only You‘ and ‘Dragon‘.

TY (Niue) is a singer/songwriter/rapper and was part of the NZ hip hop group called Smashproof. Tyree achieved ‘Best Male Artist’ at the Australasian UMA awards of 2007. Along with his group Smashproof, they achieved local records status by having the longest running number 1 single with the socially poignant hit ‘Brother’ as well as a slew of awards to solidify his place in New Zealand music royalty.

TY has found a new lease on life as an artist, having kicked substance abuse problem that plagued him for many years. Now a born again Christian, TY’s new music carries themes of love and support throughout, and reflects a positive state of mind after a tumultuous few years. He showcases more of the singing abilities that have seen him reach the top of the charts, rather than being ‘TY the rapper’. Featured track ‘Spend It, Pt. 2 feat. Sesh‘.

Liana Vaipa Rice aka Liana Frangipani (Niue, Samoan, Irish) is a singer/songwriter from Auckland, she mostly sings RnB/Pop tunes and has worked with with the legendary David Atai from Nesian Mystik and Abraham Kunin from Homebrew & TEEKS. She is also the current Miss Niue Aotearoa 2019-2020. Featured track is her latest single ‘Cruisin’ Part I’.
