KODY NIELSON ‘Azure’s Birthday’

Kody Nielson is a prodigiously talented multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and producer who remains resistant to any kind of easy pigeonholing.
He’s explored cybernetic pop as Silicon, collaborated with partner Bic Runga on psychedelic guitar group Opossum, worked with brother Ruban Nielson on Unknown Mortal Orchestra and of course blew away local audiences as frontman of pioneering punk band the Mint Chicks.
His latest musical offering, released under his ow name, follows a similar theme to the debut 2013 EP, Devils. Relatively short pieces of music, completely instrumental, with Kody exploring a compositional themes using synth, bass and drums. The album is titled Birthday Suite, with each track titled dedicated to the birthdays of those people closest to him. The first single ‘Bic’s Birthday’ was released on 13th January, with the entire album dropping on May 9th – Kody’s Birthday.
Of the singles released so far, we were vibing on ‘Azure’s Birthday’ the most.
