The Auckland stop of the ‘Foreign Legacy’ EP Release NZ Tour, Unchained XL is accompanied by local artists New Telepathics and The Boombox Eulogy.

Unchained XL is a self-produced Nigerian Kiwi Hip-hop artist with a unique, Afrocentric sound that is easily recognizable as his own. Showcasing his debut five-track EP ‘Foreign Legacy’ (released on March 1st, 2018), UXL and his band (The Shaka Boys) blend traditional afrobeat-inspired textures and rhythms with various styles of hip-hop, utilising a combination of live instruments and synths. With overarching themes of identity, race, virtue and cultural innovation, and drawing musical influence from by Fela Kuti, Jidenna, and M.anifest, UXL delivers a highly energetic, and convicting performance that will leave you searching for more.
Respected around the world with an underground cult status, New Telepathics is about communication and pushing the boundaries. Drawing from soul, afrobeat, punk, electronica, jazz, dub and the avant-garde, New Telepathics takes you through a journey to protest the suffering and to celebrate the joy.
With their recent full length release “The End of War” (Jan 2018), New Telepathics is a powerhouse of intense groove fronted by Darryn Harkness (Aotearoa), Nuel Nonsu (Nigeria), Phodiso (Botswana) and Sandy Mill (Aotearoa), with the rhythm and horn sections featuring some of New Zealand’s finest musicians.
The Boombox Eulogy is an Auckland based hip-hop group that brings back that old-school sound and infuses it with a modern flavour. The group combines elements of sampling, scratching and playing live instruments to create a high energy, live hip hop band sound. After the sucessful release of their debut EP ‘Crates and Collabs’, and collaborations with Auckland heavyweights Raiza Biza and Angelo King; ‘The Boombox Eulogy’ return with a brand new live set featuring support from George Smith on drums and Josh Morrice on guitar.
