White Night – Art after dark for one night only – FREE
Written by Admin on March 10, 2013
On Saturday, March 16th Auckland will be transformed as over 60 art galleries and museums all over the city open their doors for free from 6pm to midnight. White Night is a night art festival that happens once a year all over the world. It originally started in Saint Petersburg, as a celebration of art and summer solstice while taking advantage of late sunset.
There are free events planned all over the city but one of the events we’re most excited about is happening right here in our neighbourhood. Chan Andreassend, the art gallery right next door to Base FM, is hosting “Intimate Encounters” – a night of light filled sculptures, projected art works, video installations, performance artists and an interactive touch screen. there will be art work on the street front of the gallery but also in the outdoor courtyard behind the gallery.
Chan Andreassand are quite a special gallery in that they are very supportive of artists who otherwise struggle to break into the exclusive world of art gallery dealerships. Sadly a rarity in our area. They still have some spaces left in the exhibition and would like to encourage anyone out there who would like to exhibit their work on the night to get in touch. If your work sells they won’t charge commision fees and they’re not charging exhibition fees either.
Across the road from 6pm – 8pm you can help add the finishing touches to what is now the largest mural in the South Pacific – the 420 metre-long mural around Ponsonby’s Vinegar Lane development. An amazing piece of work that some of our own DJs have contributed to.
There will be different exhibitions on display all around the hood so we’d recommend starting off here on Rose Rd and then making your way along Ponsonby Rd to K’ Rd.
If you have something to add to this amazing night of art, email Ronald Andreassend at r@chanandreassend.co.nz or call 360 1909
