Rice & Beans Festival – Saturday, Feb 23 – FREE!
Written by Admin on February 19, 2013
This weekend a free Latin/Caribbean/Brazilian food and music festival is going down at Silo Park! This Saturday (February 23) the Rice & Beans Festival will be taking over Wynyard Quarter for a one-off, eclectic mish-mash of music, culture, art and food.
Stinky Jim will kick things off at 12pm, getting the crowd in the mood with the freshest reggae, dancehall and reggae; followed by Sandy Bay Social Club, Jah Red Lion and Latinaotearoa. Things will heat up in the evening with New York DJ, Nickodemus, who will explore the intersection of urban and world music with the sounds of funk, jazz, hip-hop, house and dub, and Tamenpi, all the way from Rio de Janeiro.
Offering discerning Aucklanders’ fantastic free entertainment in their own backyard, the Rice & Beans Festival is the perfect family outing. Visitors can grab a bite to eat then settle in for an afternoon of South American tunes from an epic south of the border line-up.
It’s promised to be an afternoon of the very best tunes, browsing every style from soul funk, jazz, reggae, Brazilian music, afrobeat, downtempo, and everything in between.
A perfect sunny afternoon warm up for Saturday night – which this weekend means, Radiowaves!
Also down at the park this weekend, the award winning Searching For Sugar Man documentary is playing on Friday night. The film will start at 9pm, market stalls, food vendors and bar open from 5pm.
