Featured Base DJ – Dan Paine
Written by Admin on January 1, 2013
Our first featured DJ for 2013 comes all the way from Matakana for his show on Base. Dan Paine hosts “Off The Record” on Wednesday nights, alternating weekly with Aimee. He even makes it into the city now and then to DJ at different joints around town but this weekend he’ll be getting things cooking at one of his more regular spots – Leigh Sawmill. On Saturday night Dan and Dylan C are supporting Funkommunity as The Drumrunners, their north of Auckland party smasher alter egos.
On his mixcloud page Dan describes his three most important milestones in life as his birth in 1977, purchasing his first cassette tape in 1987 and DJing for the first time in 1997. He posts all his shows on Mixcloud, the latest being the great best of 2012 show he did just before Christmas so click that link for a little taste of what you might be in store for this weekend. While you’re at it, check out the Off The Record blog which has some great music, videos and links on it.
Like many Base FM DJs, Dan Paine has a second life (i.e a J.O.B) that is still very much centred in the creative world. In Dan’s case he is the proud owner of one of the coolest movie theatres in Auckland, the Matakana Cinema. If you’re going to the trouble of hauling your arse off the couch to see a movie then you might as well make it really worth it and go see that movie in Matakana. The theatre won New Zealand’s best Indie Cinema in 2011 and for good reason. Dan makes sure they always have a really interesting line up of both art-house and block buster films, while the plush three-theatre boutique cinema provides spacious and luxurious seating as well as state-of-the-art sound (of course).
Come party with us all at Leigh Sawmill this Saturday (Jan 5, from 9pm) while Dan and Dylan, MC Bjorn and Funkommunity let 2013 know just how things are going down this year. Just $20 on the door for all that goodness.
