WOMAD NZ 2012 CD PROVIDES TASTE OF THE WORLD’S FESTIVAL

Can’t wait for WOMAD?  Experience the sounds of WOMAD New Zealand 2012 on the newly released compilation CD, WOMAD: The World’s Festival 2012. The CD is the official compilation released ahead of the three-day festival which takes place from 16-18 March 2012 at New Plymouth’s Brooklands Park and TSB Bowl.

The CD features 16 tracks and provides a snapshot of artists performing at WOMAD New Zealand 2012. Opening with the distinctive Congolese rhythms of Staff Benda Bilili, the CD takes listeners on a colourful journey around the globe – from Mongolia with Anda Union, to France for Lo’Jo and Chapelier Fou, Romania with Mahala Rai Banda, Spain with Diego Guerrero Y El Solar de Artistas and Ireland for accordion extraordinaire Sharon Shannon; Jamaica with Groundation; taking in India with Shivkumar Sharma‘s masterful santoor performance, and Palestine with Le Trio Joubran; to Africa for Dobet Gnahore (Ivory Coast) and the sublime voice of Senegal’s Baaba Maal and Australia for the spine-tingling sound of Gurrumul. Two New Zealand artists feature on the album with Pajama Club‘s ‘TNT for 2’ and The Black Seeds‘ ‘Bulletproof’.
