SORCERESS ‘Teacups (CHAOS IN THE CBD Paradise mix)’

To coincide with the band’s current tour of the UK, Sorceress have enlisted the services of fellow kiwis Chaos In The CBD for a fresh remix of ‘Teacups’.

With a natural inclination for a touch of jazz and soul, it came as no surprise to see the Peckham-based, Rhythm Section and Church affiliated groove kings Chaos In The CBDmatched up with soul four-piece Sorceress. The brothers have applied their signature deep-textured and melody-rich sound to a lovely number from the New Zealand outfit.
The duo inject a warm earthiness in their interpretation of ‘Teacups’ (taken from the band’s 2014 Dose LP), building it up from basic elements of a swung percussive backline of drums, an understated bass line and sustained aqueous keys on top. Syncopated rhythms and a much-emphasized first beat of each bar, breathe a deep afro-house number. Yet the track matures into much more through its seductive electric guitar chord riff as well as liberally-imbued vocal sample morsels and sweet scatterings of saxophone. Lose yourself a thousand times over in this one.
SORCERESS ‘Teacups (CHAOS IN THE CBD Paradise mix)’ is out now on Bandcamp via Wonderwheel Recordings.
