Speaking of community, this story about an independent community library in Mexico is really inspiring. The library features mostly contemporary and experimental art books, hard to access in Mexico, donated by the local artists who run the small library.

Comedy Central have uploaded online every single Key & Peele episode every made. The front page declares “If they made it, it’s here” so that should give you a good Netflix alternative for the weekend.

And because we all need a little cautiously optimistic good news, Icelandic scientists have found a way to turn CO2 into stone. 

We’ve just stumbled across singer Tiyi Christopher who currently has just two tracks to her name on Soundcloud but the slow soulful, Floetry referencing of ‘Curious’ sounds like it’d fit so snuggly into Kirk James’ A Groove Theory show. 

This is a first, but we’re gonna go ahead and recommend you listen to an Ace of Base cover. We know, we’re surprised too. But this eerie short film made as a colab between Egyptian-Iranian singer/producer Lafawndah and artist Analisa Teachworth, filmed in Mexico City, is worth any potential traumatic 90s flashbacks.

Ok, we’re really going against our usual brand this week but … here’s a compelling argument against coffee. 

ICYMI, Steph Curry released a new shoe this week and it didn’t go down too well. 

This piece about the relationship between party promoters and gentrification in New York is really interesting, a little alarming and potentially quite relevant to the situation here in Auckland.

Dazed Digital have published a list of the “Best Music Documentaries Made In The Last 16 Years” (ie this millennium) and, bless them, found some of them uploaded in full on Youtube and Vimeo.

On  Thursday night we were treated to an incredible live performance from Aaradhna, who sang the title track off her new album ‘Brown Girl’ at the Vodafone Pacific Music Awards. Aaradhna is performing at Neck Of The Woods with her live band (featuring local legends Jeremy Toy, Tom Broome and Chip Matthews) on Saturday night. Tickets have almost sold out so we recommend you get in there right now. 

On Saturday Hopewalk is hosting a walk to raise awareness for suicide prevention. The walk starts in St Heliers at 12PM.

On Sunday, Leigh Sawmill has jazz musician Alex Ward from 5PM – 7PM. Just $5 on the door.
