The Base Guide To Everything
Written by Admin on June 2, 2016
Welcome to our weekly feature where we round up our favourite articles/videos/music from around the internet this week and let you know our picks for things happening in the city this weekend:
A big welcome to the newest member of the Base fam, Rebel Soul Records now bringing you the Base FM Gig Guide on the Breakfast show. Tito will be dropping by Breakfast every Tuesday to share his favourite tracks of the week, tune in!
Super Villains’ Piatao has just released his music video for $mokin’ $exy Mirror$ off his debut solo album ‘Apollo Or Die On Ices’. The video, featuring a lot of familiar faces and filmed in the Grey Lynn native’s neighbourhood, was produced by K Rd party girls LiT Entertainment.
The synth-heavy, robotic afro-beat of Young Paris’ new EP African Vogue feels kind of perfect for turning up to on on a cold winter night.
We can’t help but notice the glaring omission of Villette, but this is an otherwise great feature on women taking over the producer game in New Zealand.
Which brings us to New Zealand women taking over the producer game worldwide – holy shit, Estère was featured in okayafrica!
NZ Musician Magazine has just launched a brand new website with the help of a crowdfunding campaign that was hugely supported by both the public and the local music scene.
And an example of some of the really great features on that new site is this article by Caitlin Smith about avoiding self sabotage as a musician.
If ever you needed a clearer sign that the end of the world is truly nigh, they’ve created an emoji translation of the Bible. The first horse of the Apocalypse has to be this bronze selfie statue in Houston.
Are you your body and which half of your brain are you? This pair of quirky, animated but actually science based videos manage to answer this *takes a hit from the bong* type of question.
GIG GUIDE
Yoko-Zuna are celebrating the release of their new EP ‘Luminols’ feat. P-Digsss (Shapeshifter), Tom Scott (Average Rap Band, Home Brew), Laughton Kora, Heavy, LarzRanda & Lukan Rai$ey at Kings Arms on Friday night.
New joint in town, Impala, is opening on Friday night in the old are-you-OG-enough-to-remember Code space downtown.
The Waitemata Youth Collective have organised a clothes swap outside the Auckland Central Library this Saturday.
Winter makes most markets pretty uninviting but the Pop Up Market in Mt Eden Memorial Hall on Saturday promises bargains and cosiness.
There’s also a Makers Market on in Shed 10 all weekend long, along with a bunch of other activities happening all over Queen’s Wharf for her majesty’s bday celebrations.
This Sunday our favourite nearby getaway Leigh Sawmill is celebrating the long weekend with a Sawmill Selaktaz session and a special late license till 2AM.

Naw you guys! Thanks for mentioning us, that is SO sweet! The current website you’ll find at http://www.nzmusician.com is just an interim one we quickly made to have *a* website while our real one is being created. Same content as the old one, on this current one, but already a huge step up!
