SAMUEL TRUTH ‘Kaa’

Written by on May 3, 2013

Fresh out of Auckland City this week we have beatmaker Samuel Truth with the track “Kaa” from his latest EP “Kingdom”. One of the many talented young DJs & producers who have emerged from the MIANZ DJEMP program, Samuel Truth has a refreshing & diverse take on instrumental beats. Going back to Samuel Truth’s previous 2 releases. “Veritos” & “Past Tense” – available on Bandcamp now as a condensed 9 track collection, really highlights the progress this beat maker his made with this latest EP. Darker Than Wax crew have also just dropped yet another new Samuel Truth track as a free DL via their soundcloud. Check the link at the bottom of the page.

“Kaa” begins with playful musical melody before dropping into a dope syncopated beat, and things really get going when the wall-of-sound synth comes in. It has a heavy vibe without being dark, and is a perfect snapshot of the local beats scene right now.

Kaa (Kingdom EP) by Samuel Truth

“Our love affair with Auckland continues in the form of another new addition to the stables – Samuel Truth.
We were very fortunate to stumble upon Samuel via twitter, and upon further research into his soundcloud, we were amazed by the body and depth of his work. His most recent output ‘Kingdom’ displays an incredible diversity of styles in his tracks, from traditional beat numbers, 4/4 tempo to more experimental bass and trap / juke elements. But most importantly, he does not overdo things – something that we emphasize heavily here at DTW. That ability to capture the essence and communicate the intent across is extremely rare in the current age of music, and we feel Samuel has that uncanny sense to do so.

For this special freebie, we decided to upload ‘Caspian’ which hinges on a soulful 4/4 beatdown vibe. again highlighting his eclectic nature. Soak in the pacific vibes right here at DTW” – DarkerThanWax
