OFF THE RECORD with Dan Paine
Dan Paine is the CEO of 'Off the Record' and to him it's all about the music! Good music...
He started his DJ career in his bedroom in 1998, practicing for a year before playing at the legendary but now-gone Lost Angel and Brazil Cafes on K-Road.

In the years since, he has been resident at Galatos Bar (3 years), Rakinos Bar (DJ support for bands Kolab, The Hot Grits and , plus monthly club night "The Low End Theory"), and Tabac Bar (now for 4 years). There have also been support spots for DJ Regal, The Opensouls, plus guest spots at Auckland's infamous club night, The Turnaround.
Dan got involved with Base FM, when he heard about it starting up while he was living overseas. Persuasive e-mails were sent and when Dan got back he was doing a gig with Manuel (the infamous ATCQ debate gig), and hit him up for a slot. He has been a resident DJ on Base, hosting "Off the Record" every Wednesday night since May 2005.
With ‘Off the Record' into its fourth year of broadcast, the show's sound and style has evolved with its host's musical adventure. On any Wednesday, you could hear a fast, furious hip-hop style set; a soul, African & funk soaked session, or a breezy blend of Latin, dub, dub-step, rock, and house (maybe). Whatever the nights flavour might be, Dan likes to keep it fresh and bumpin' through different styles, keeping the listeners on their toes, and just to keep getting the music that he loves out to the peoples.
All these years of buying and mixing has helped to broaden his skills, selection, and collection. So, expect occasional record label and artist special-shows, as ‘Off the Record' gets its bounce on, Wednesday night, 6 - 8pm.
