Chip Matthews
Bass player and part-time DJ, Chip Matthews has been on the local music scene for over a decade. Beginning with the Nu-Jazz outfit, The New LoungeHead in 1996, Chip has gone on to play either live or in studio with the likes of Che Fu & the Krates; King Kapisi; Scribe, and Sola Rosa amongst others. At present Chip plays for opensouls, Anika Moa, Anna Coddington, Ladi6, The Tornadoes feat. Tyra Hammond, and Eru Dangerspiel.
Chip began his wrestle with the turntables about five years ago. A set of his can find anything from deep soul, to reggae, through to hip-hop and at times even via country. As well as on Base Breakfast, he can be found Djing around AucklandCity on a when-he's-in-town basis.
Tyra Hammond
Having been on the scene since 2005, Tyra has managed to fit a whole lotta stuff into those four years. Known primarily as vocalist for opensouls, Tyra has also recorded and/or toured for the likes of Scribe and Australian outfit, The Bamboos. Her voice and presence also assisted in the resurgence of the local funk scene through the group The Tornadoes ft Tyra Hammond.
Tyra joins Chip on Monday and Tuesday mornings to help you wrestle yourself back into the working week. The smile to his scowl, the laugh to his growl, these two compliment each other to assist in your post-weekend reality. And you never know, they maybe as hung over as you.
Dylan C
The station programme director joins the breakfast team twice a week, bringing the freshest beats & informative interviews with local & international guests. Not so much about the banter as the beats, his delivery is more cautious and to the point!!
"Mornings are a challenge and i'm still getting into the swing of things...". True that bro.
Holly J
Born and raised and still living in the heart of Waitakere's, Holly ventured out into the big wide world and found a passion for music and media. She spent three years studying at AUT University and graduated with a Bachelor of Communications majoring in radio.
Since then Holly's been working multiple jobs around the big wigs of radio in Auckland but was always passionate about one station in particular. So this year she asked if she work at Base and Base said yes!
Holly joined the Base FM team starting out as the newsgirl and has quickly moved on to take charge as the Base Breakfast Producer.
She also works part time as a dance teacher out West and enjoys going for a boogie at all the good dubstep, reggae, hip hop and drum and bass gigs.
